Site NEWS UPDATE August 20th 2007
The whole site has been revamped during August most of the trees growing in the wall have been removed and all the path ways have been cleared. You can walk the entire site in flip flops and not get your feet wet. Bivvies cut outs have been started and hope to be completed later this year. New drains at the park and ride makes the path look great only time will tell is we are successful in keeping this area dry. Shrubs have been planted between swims along the main road side but Please be careful of them at this time.
NO RUBBISH TO BE LEFT ONSITE IF YOU BRING IT TAKE IT AWAY WITH YOU!!!
The reservoir is located on the right of the A.3020 NEWPORT to COWES road approximately ¼ mile from Somerton Garage and before you reach the New Health Centre.
This is a day/weekly/ticket water which may be purchased from the News Agent Pryde of Cowes and Scotties tackle shops Newport and Sandown.
Strictly NO fishing before
buying permit
The site was brought from the water board
in 1985 and was stocked with carp, perch, roach, rudd, bream and tench. The
carp, roach, perch and rudd all continue to grow contentedly but the bream and
tench only lasted a couple of seasons they could not compete with the carp in
the food chain.
The water level remains fairly constant and is up to 4.5 meters deep with a surface area just over 2 acres.
All anglers must take great care of slippery banks after rain.
The average size of the larger carp that can be caught are 10/15 lb
A re-stocking programme in 1999 started and 90 lb of small mirror carp were introduced.
These fish are growing well.
The Environment Agency supplied up to couple of thousand Roach/Rudd in Aug 2000.
We stocked during 2001 season approx. 100 carp 2 lbs. to 8 lb. in weight both common and mirror. This has resulted in a very well stocked water and 50lb of fish are easily caught.
A new health centre is being built adjacent to our site and it is proposed that we shall swap a little land on the side adjoining the health centre in return for new roadside fence and car parking spaces
Please leave quietly and take all your litter with you.
To all members PLEASE give us feedback in the form of fish photo's weights etc.
this site depends on you it must be run by you for your information and future
